Zero Dollar Budget

1. INTRODUCTION

Zero Dollar Budget ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our iOS app and website. The same data practices apply on the web: we use Supabase for storage and authentication, and sign-in options (e.g. email, Google) work the same way across platforms.

2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Account Information:

Email address (for authentication)
Display name (optional, for household identification)

You may sign in using Apple Sign In or Google Sign In; those providers' privacy policies apply to their handling of your sign-in.

Financial Data:

Budget categories and planned amounts you create
Transaction records you enter or import (amounts, merchants, dates, notes)
Income items and amounts

Bank Account Data (via Plaid):

If you choose to link a bank account, we use Plaid Technologies, Inc. to connect to your financial institution. Plaid retrieves your transaction history on your behalf and sends it to us. We store:

Transaction amounts, merchant names, and dates
Account identifiers (not your full account number)

We never see or store your bank username, password, or full account numbers. Plaid handles authentication with your bank directly. Plaid's privacy policy is available at plaid.com/legal.

We do NOT collect:

Bank account numbers or login credentials
Social security numbers
Location data
Contact lists or photos
Any data from other apps on your device

3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

To provide and maintain the budgeting service
To sync your budget across your devices
To enable household sharing with people you invite
To authenticate your account

4. DATA STORAGE & SECURITY

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (built on PostgreSQL) with:

Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL)
Encryption at rest
Row Level Security ensuring you can only access your own data
Secure authentication via Supabase Auth

5. DATA SHARING

We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties.

Your data is shared ONLY with:

Members of your household (whom you explicitly invite)
Supabase — our infrastructure provider for data storage
Plaid Technologies, Inc. — solely to facilitate bank account linking at your request

6. DATA RETENTION & DELETION POLICY

Retention: We retain your personal and financial data for as long as your account is active. We do not retain data beyond what is needed to provide the service.

Deletion upon request: When you request account deletion, all of your personal data — including account information, budget data, transaction records, and linked bank account tokens — is permanently deleted immediately. No backup copies are retained after deletion.

Bank account unlinking: When you unlink a bank account, we immediately revoke the Plaid access token and delete all associated account data from our systems.

Policy review: This data retention and deletion policy is reviewed at least annually and updated as needed to remain compliant with applicable data privacy laws.

You can export your data at any time as CSV files from the Settings screen

7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our app and website are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or website, or via email.
